ALEXANDRIA, VA. - The
National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE)
National President Gregory Thomas released the following statement in
response to the shooting of Alton Sterling by officers of the Baton
Rouge, LA Police Department:
"The National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE)
is saddened by the news of Alton Sterling's death as the result of an
encounter with Baton Rouge police officers on Tuesday, July 5, 2016.
Our deepest sympathies and prayers go out to the family of Mr. Sterling,
as they mourn the loss of a loved one.
"As NOBLE's 40-year mission has been to ensure the equitable administration
of justice in all communities throughout the U.S., police-citizen
encounters of this nature continue to remind us of our purpose. NOBLE
National President Gregory A. Thomas has communicated with NOBLE Region
Five Vice President, Frederick Thomas, (no relation) Captain, East Baton
Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office and has extended assistance and support. NOBLE
also commends Baton Rouge Mayor Kip Holden, Police Chief Carl Dabadie,
and Governor John Bel Edwards for taking the steps to ask the U.S.
Department of Justice for an independent investigation.
"We applaud the U.S. Department of Justice for taking over the investigation into this incident with all deliberation and hope that the Sterling family receives full justice and closure." [End]
