The Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra's community engagement program provided 40 free tickets and transportation for Long Beach underserved residents to attend Jan 24 Vivaldi & Schubert concert featuring guest conductor and violinist Karina Canellakis at the Alex Theatre in Glendale, Ca. Karina is the first conductor and soloist I have seen featured during the same program. Exchanged greetings with KUSC Classical Radio Executive Producer Gail Eichenthal as she was moving to her seat. Karina Canellakis was forthright and interesting during the preconcert discussion and she convincingly performed on the podium and off the podium with the violin. Karina is truly a young and brilliant talent. LACO did not take a chance with her as they nudged diversity forward in classical music.
