DETROIT/Nov. 9, 2012—The award-winning Brazeal Dennard Chorale, directed by Dr. Augustus Hill, will present its 41st annual Holiday Concert on Sunday, Dec. 2 at Orchestra Hall.

The concert will feature an evening of music designed to usher in the holiday season including carols, classical works and sacred Negro spirituals performed by members of the Brazeal Dennard Chorale, which won gold and silver medals at the 2012 World Choir Games.

“Coming off the Chorale’s success this summer in Cincinnati at the World Choir Games, our members are excited to perform before our hometown audience at historic Orchestra Hall,” said Don Robinson, executive director of the Brazeal Dennard Chorale.

“The Chorale looks forward to presenting a festive evening of music and family entertainment that is sure to appeal to all segments of our community.”

An added attraction will be selections performed by the Brazeal Dennard Chorale Young People’s Chorus, featuring male and female singers ranging in age from eight to 18.

Tickets for the 4 p.m. performance are $50 (box seats); $30 (general admission); and $20 (balcony); and can be purchased by contacting the Chorale office at 313-331-0378 or 313-823-5278.  Brazeal Dennard Chorale Holiday Concert tickets also are available through the Detroit Symphony Orchestra Box Office at 313-576-5111.

“I have seen increased enthusiasm in the community from our prospective audience following the World Choir Games Encore Concert,” said Janice Cowan, an alto in the Chorale. “The people I have spoken to say they can’t wait for the Holiday Concert and we are excited about performing for them.”

Named after its legendary founder, the late Brazeal Dennard, the Brazeal Dennard Chorale’s mission is to “remember, discover, preserve, and share the Negro spiritual as a part of the artistic community, and to rediscover and perform significant choral works by African American composers.”  The Chorale’s members represent a diverse cross section of local people who have found a musical home in the group including doctors, lawyers, teachers, day laborers and college students.  To learn more about the Brazeal Dennard Chorale, please visit www.brazealdennard.org.
