Composer Fred Onovwerosuoke: 'The Gathering is a call to gather and reflect; to cherish grand designs'

[Fred Onovwerosuoke]

“American Dreamers” is a concert presented at 8 PM Saturday, February 12, 2011 by Ensemble du Monde and its Music Director and Conductor Marlon Daniel. The venue is New York's Merkin Hall. The first work on the program is The Gathering: an Overture, composed by Fred Onovwerosuoke. This will be the World Premiere of the work. AfriClassical asked Dr. Onovwerosuoke to briefly describe the composition. Here is his response:

The Gathering: an Overture (Program note)
The Gathering is a call to gather and reflect; to cherish grand designs of nature, peoples, earth and the mystical universe. The 7-minute work is a mosaic of sort - of fragmented ideas, each of which could be spurned off like virgin threads off a loom. It is set as an overture, yet an overture to what other larger work, I'll be remiss to claim knowledge. However, I must thank Marlon Daniel and his Ensemble Du Monde for our second collaboration.
