Chamber Music Society of Central Virginia Performs 'Southland Sketches' of H.T. Burleigh April 18

For Sunday, April 18, 2010 he highlights a concert of The Chamber Music Society of Central Virginia. The program includes Southland Sketches of the African American composer, arranger and baritone Henry “Harry” Thacker Burleigh (1866-1949). He is profiled at AfriClassical.com, which features a Works List compiled by Prof. Dominique-René de Lerma of Lawrence University Conservatory. He writes that the composition dates from 1914 and is in four movements, for violin and piano. Recordings include a CD by Margaret Harrison, violin; and Reginald Paul, piano; Symposium SYM 1140 (1991).
